New investment in wastewater treatment technology – NPHarvest

Stephen Industries participated in the initial funding round of NPHarvest, a spin-off from Aalto University. The company raised €2.2M to take its proprietary nutrient catcher machine to the market. The round was led by Nordic Foodtech VC, with co-investments from Maa- ja vesitekniikan tuki ry and us. The round consists of a €1.3M equity investment and a €900.000 grant from the Finnish Ministry of the Environment and their RAKI program.

NPHarvest’s technology is designed to efficiently capture and recycle excess nutrients from wastewater, transforming them into valuable ammonia salt used in the fertilizer industry. This not only helps reduce the environmental impact of excess fertilizers leading to eutrophication but also enhances food security by creating sustainable and affordable fertilizers.

With this new funding, NPHarvest plans to construct the first commercially viable Nutrient Catcher, tailored to fit various operational scales and facility needs while maintaining low production costs.
